OMSCo are proud sponsors of the new Cub Scout Global Conservation badge, which was officially launched in November 2010, with support from TV wildlife presenter, Chris Packham

By undertaking activities that encourage children to learn about the world around them, Cub Scouts can help protect native wildlife for generations to come and be rewarded with this special badge. Supporting the conservation of British hedgerows through our organic farming practices is something that we are very proud of at OMSCo.

To gain the Global Conservation badge, Cub Scouts will take part in a series of activities, including making an insect sweep net to bring on a hedgerow safari, creating a mini forest garden or devising a campaign about how litter can harm animals and birds. The badge aims to get young people back outside, enjoying the British countryside and understanding how to preserve it.

The downloadable pack (PDF) gives details of the six different activities, along with lots of facts about native wildlife. Cub Scouts who take part in a Hedgerow Safari will also receive copies of the laminated Field Studies Council Hedgerow Guide.

In September 2010, more than 100 Cub Scouts took part in a Hedgerow Safari at the Cream O’Galloway visitor centre in Scotland, as a first step towards achieving the new badge.
